Rue Brune
Description
Rue Brune is one of Bonneville's oldest passages which dates back to the Middle Ages.
The passageway was originally very dark, which explains its name "brune" or brown, and closed by a wooden door that opens into the large archways facing the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville. Popular usage gave it the name "Rue Punaise", not in reference to the insect (bed bug), but to an old French adjective "punais" meaning "smelly". On the left, look out for an old coal chute which enabled delivery of coal directly from the street to the cellar
